2015 Summer Shows

It's that time of year again!  Craft shows and farmer's markets are gearing up for the summer. Memorial Day weekend has come and gone and it's long over due for me to start planting in the garden.  Life has thrown our family some curve balls lately, so there's no better time for me to go out and dig in the yard and relieve some stress!  Of course, in typical Northern Nevada style, it's been cool and raining all last week (never mind the extremely dry and warm winter that we've had). I was loving all the rain! Of course, now we are back to being really hot.  As the saying goes, "If you don't like the weather in Nevada, just wait 5 minutes."

I'm also stocking up for my first shows of the year! I decided not to do as many summer shows this year.  Mostly because of the heat and my skin care items not holding up as well as I'd like in the heat and to also spend a bit more time with the family. I have so many new items to share with you all! Many new upcycled items including a new crochet tote bag made from plastic shopping bags, a few different styles of market bags made from old t-shirts, and some really cute garden aprons made from old jeans. I'll also be introducing a few new skin care items including tinted lip balms and lotions with sunscreen in them (all natural/organic ingredients, of course). And of course I'll have all my old favorites with me!
My first show coming up is the Creekside Mercantile Artisan Craft Show on Saturday, June 6th from 10am-5pm. I'll be there with many other local artists, businesses, and food vendors. The Children's Cabinet will also be there and will be accepting donations of new clothing items for infants through teens, non-perishable foods, new baby items, new stuffed animals, etc. Cash donations will also be accepted. Please stop by the event page to more about the event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1432221547072283/

The second show I'll be participating in is the Summer Fun at Arlington Gardens on Saturday, June 13th from 10am-4pm. I'll be there selling all my handcrafted goodies as well as selling Wildtree products with my team member, Nykki. There will be many great direct sales ladies there, local businesses inside the mall, local artists, and food trucks. We will also have some bins set up to accept pet food donations for the Nevada Humane Society. You can see all the event details on the Facebook page here: www.facebook.com/SummerFunatArlingtonGardens.

I hope to see all you locals at the events!  As always, if you need something custom, I'm happy to make that something special for you!

No-Poo Update

5/7/2015

Well this update is long overdue! So it was a little over a year ago that I started using the No-Poo method to wash my hair (you can read about it in my post here). It was a rough beginning and for the most part, I really liked it.  After about 9 months though, I noticed that I was starting to get dandruff in my hair and I was getting itchy scalp.  I have gone my entire life and never had an issue with dandruff! So I tried to add some essential oils to my mix to try and combat the issue, but to no avail. I even tried to make a few new natural shampoos that were more ph balanced  (see here for the recipe), but I still couldn't get the dandruff to subside.  And even the ph balanced shampoo started to make my hair look greasy again.  I was so fed up with fighting with my hair and scalp! So with that, (and a few upcoming events that I didn't want to have greasy hair for), I ended up going back to a more commercial shampoo.  I did look up on EWG's website though and found a more natural shampoo that worked for me and wasn't too high on their harmful list, rating at about a 2.  It didn't take long for my hair be less greasy and the dandruff started to go away, as well as the itchy scalp, much to my relief.  I've been back to using my natural shampoo now for about 6 months or so and I haven't had any issues.  I've even noticed that I can go a couple of days between washing it and it doesn't get very greasy at all.  Before no-poo when I was using more chemically based shampoos, I had to wash my hair every day otherwise I'd immediately start to get a greasy scalp with very static ends.  It was terrible!  I now know it was just too drying and the excess oil on my scalp was just my body's way of trying to make up for that.

I'm a little sad that the no-poo method didn't work out as well as I had hoped, but in the end, not having an itchy head has been really nice.  I even looked into a few other blog posts and found that I wasn't the only one who this has happened to. The no-poo method is definitely not for everyone.  Everyone's body reacts to products differently, and mine definitely didn't agree with this one.  Here are a few other's experiences with no-poo who also didn't turn out as well as expected:

I'd love to know if you have ever tried the no-poo method!  How did it work for you?
